Easily add a password to your PDF files

This online tool allows you to easily add a password to your PDF files. Instead of downloading an app, simply upload the files here in the browser and protect your PDF documents with a password.

How to add a password to a PDF

  • Click on 'Choose file' or drag and drop the file that you would like to secure with a password
  • Enter your desired password and retype it for safety reasons in the second field
  • Choose between an encryption of 256 bits (maximum security) and 128 bits (for compatibility with older software)
  • Select if and with which quality your file may be printed, and if the text may be copied or edited
  • Click on 'Add password' in the lower center and download your encrypted file

Security for your sensitive data

Data security is key for pdfforge. As a German company we are subject to strict data policy laws and our servers are located in the EU. Files that you upload will automatically be deleted from our system after two hours.

Protip:

Even though your data is safe with us, there are always documents which should not be sent to a public service. We recommend to use our PDFCreator to easily and securely add a password to files which contain sensitive personal data. The desktop version is not only popular for private use but is also used by many of our clients world wide. One of its advantages are the extra layers of security. PDFCreator prevents unauthorized access to your PDFs and lets you encrypt your files with AES while protecting them with a password. You can use the free version or one of our professional solutions.
